In a major development for electric vehicle (EV) charging in Canada, FLO, a premier North American electric vehicle charging network operator, has partnered with automotive giant General Motors (GM) to enhance the EV charging experience. This collaboration brings to life the Plug and Charge feature for GM’s EV drivers across Canada, marking a significant leap towards simplifying the EV charging process.

The activation of Plug and Charge on all DC fast chargers within the FLO network across the country signifies a new era of convenience for GM EV owners. Utilizing FLO’s cutting-edge autocharge software, GM EV drivers can now initiate a fast-charging session by merely plugging their vehicle into a FLO DC fast charging station. This innovative approach eliminates the need for drivers to interact with a mobile app or use a charging card to start charging their vehicle.

FLO’s technology seamlessly identifies the plugged-in vehicle, authorizes the charging session, and initiates billing automatically, requiring no extra steps from the driver. This advancement not only streamlines the charging process but also reinforces FLO’s commitment to providing an exceptional charging experience to EV drivers throughout North America.

Nathan Yang, FLO’s Chief Product Officer, highlighted the significance of this development, stating, “FLO’s innovative software technology that supports GM’s Plug and Charge is just the latest step in FLO’s mission to provide the best charging experience for EV drivers across North America.” He further emphasized FLO’s capability to enhance their network with new features through remote software updates, a testament to their expertise and focus on innovation.

To access the Plug and Charge feature, GM EV owners need to link their FLO account with their respective myBrand app (myChevrolet, myCadillac, or myGMC) and activate the feature. This integration ensures a simplified, seamless, and consistent charging experience, echoing Mathew Palmer, GM Canada’s Director of EV Ecosystems, who remarked on the partnership’s role in driving consumer EV adoption by enhancing functionality and expanding charging infrastructure.

This collaboration between FLO and GM, leveraging FLO’s autocharge software, is currently exclusive to GM EVs equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) connector. It represents a significant step towards making EV ownership more appealing and convenient, potentially accelerating the transition to electric mobility across Canada.

FLO’s commitment to innovation, combined with GM’s dedication to advancing EV ecosystems, promises to lead the way in creating a more accessible and user-friendly EV charging network, setting a new standard for the EV charging experience in Canada and beyond.
