Toronto, April 25, 2024 – As the city’s vibrant theatre community gears up for a new addition, “Come From Away” originating producer Michael Rubinoff introduces “The Last Timbit.” This new musical stars Chilina Kennedy and Jake Epstein and features music and lyrics by Anika Johnson and Britta Johnson, with a narrative crafted by playwright Nick Green. The production is set to premiere at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre from June 26-30, capturing the essence of Canadian spirit and community.
Set during the unforgettable blizzard of 2010 in Sarnia, Ontario, “The Last Timbit” tells the story of a diverse group of people who find themselves stranded together in a Tim Hortons restaurant. The storm, which forced dozens of strangers to seek refuge for nearly 24 hours, provides a backdrop for exploring themes of family, community strength, and the unique ability of Canadians to make the best of challenging situations.
The musical celebrates Tim Hortons’ 60th anniversary, emphasizing how the brand has been intertwined with significant moments in the lives of many Canadians. “Great musical theatre is telling compelling stories. Every day across the country, millions of Canadians come together at Tim Hortons where life’s stories unfold,” said Rubinoff, who has previously received acclaim including an Olivier Award and a Tony Award nomination for “Come From Away.”
The cast features notable talents such as Andrew Broderick, DeAnn deGruijter, Sara Farb, Kaya Kanashiro, Julia McLellan, Danté Prince, Kimberly-Ann Truong, and others, with additional casting to be announced later. The creative team is helmed by director Brian Hill and choreographer Genny Sermonia, with music supervision by Lynne Shankel.
In partnership with global lifestyle brand Roots Corporation, the musical will also feature curated wardrobe selections that reflect the unique personalities of each character, highlighting Roots’ dedication to craftsmanship in its apparel and leather collections.
To further engage the community, Tim Hortons has launched a national contest inviting Canadians to share personal stories about the role Tim Hortons has played in their lives, offering a chance to win a trip to Toronto to see “The Last Timbit.”
